Gala is Sultans and Salmorejá (9 February)

As usual, The first event of the Carnival will be the election of the Sultana and the Sultan, a gala that this year will also be linked to the traditional Salmorejá. Both events will share space in the Plaza de La Corredera on Sunday 9 February, given that for reasons of coordination with the City Council it was delayed from the date on which it was initially going to be developed. (2 February). Such an emblematic setting of the city will once again host, as it happened in 2019, the double date that will be the starting point of the Don Carnal party.

It is worth remembering that last year the election of Sultans took place in a square that on this occasion will gain more prominence if possible.. Regarding the gala, It will go more easily than it did in the past.. The novelty occurred in its last edition, when there was a preselection of candidates -three boys and three girls-. As for the Salmorejá, again will have the accompaniment of several groups. There will be six in total: the troupes 'The workshop of the couplets', 'The dreamers', 'The defenders' and 'The granddaughters of the witches you couldn't burn'; the chirigota ‘Joy Toscontos' and the quartet 'Bachelorette Apartment'.

Carnival Groups Contest (of the 11 al 21 February)

Just two days after Salmorejá and the Sultans Gala will begin the Carnival Groups Contest, which on this occasion will reach its thirty-eighth edition. Of course, The Grand Theater will be the setting for the contest. This year they will be 46 the groups that participate: 22 cronies, 21 chirigotas and three quartets. The Contest will start on Tuesday 11 February and will last until Friday 21 of the same month - in reality the closing will occur at dawn on 22-.

The battle of couplets will count again, like for years, with two phases and the grand final. The first of them will be the qualifying or preliminaries, which will enjoy a total of six performances until Sunday 16 February. A day later the second stage of the contest will have its starting point. They will be the semi-finals, with three sessions between Monday 17 and on Wednesday 19. The aforementioned Friday 21 next month the last and definitive night of performances will be held.

Carnival tent (of the 11 al 23 February)

In addition to the Grand Theater, The functions of the Contest can be followed in the Carnival Tent, which will once again be placed on the Bulevar del Gran Capitán during the contest. Perhaps it is the most meaningful of all for those carnivals because it represents the opening of the celebration in its maximum expression.
